It isn’t every day you represent Sebeka and receive an award at the Minnesota State Fair. For Donna Anderson that day came this past weekend. For years she had worked to get a skate park for the youth of Sebeka. It became a beautiful reality this summer.

While finishing the work for the skate park, Donna became aware of the Reinventing Minnesota’s 25th Anniversary Minnesota Community Pride Competition/Comprehensive Community-Wide Awards. The program is co-sponsored by the Minnesota State Fair, MinnPost.com, and Minnesota Rural Partners, Inc. As they say, “This competition is an old-fashioned community improvement contest intended to reward, inspire, showcase and share the (re)inventive good work going on in Minnesota towns and neighborhoods to move beyond the current economic downturn towards a bright future.” Communities competed with one another based upon population size.

Dotty Olson submitted an application for the Comprehensive Award. She talked about the many projects Horizons teams had done over the previous months and how the projects impacted Sebeka. The entry received honorable mention and a $250 award.

Donna entered Sebeka in the Community Design category for the Project: Creation and Opening of the Sebeka Skate Park. It won first prize: a plaque, coin and a check for $500.

To both Ladies, Congratulations on your great work on the entries, and Thank You for promoting Sebeka.
